Immigration and mid-term elections
Jun 14 2006, 8:57 AM EDT Several weeks ago before the Senate Bill was passed, I wrote to the DNC and told them that I thought Democratic leaders were wrong on this issue and it would lead to defeat in the mid-term elections. Americans are fed up with all of the illegals in this country and the fact that they are demostrating and demanding goods and services that they do not pay for. The election in California proved this and now all Republicans are jumping on this band-wagon and will be using it strongly against the Democrats who voted for this Senate Bill. People want the border secured and our laws enforced on employers who are providing the incentives for them to come. We want a way to verify documentation these people are presenting and we want those who have stolen identities to be deported. That is the ONLY way we will stem this invasion that is taking place on our soil. By supporting the Senate bill (which is almost identical to 1986) Democrats will lock themselves out of winning a majority in either house. I hope that this party will realize this and become smarter in dealing with this problem which affects EVERY American in this country. Only a "get tough" stance will turn this tide of illegals entering our country daily. 5 out of 7 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Immigration and mid-term elections
Jul 11 2006, 8:57 AM EDT This is not a Democratic or Republician problem. This is a national problem. This has been ongoing since the Reagan years. It has festered through several administrations: both Republican and Democratic. The illegials are here. They are not going anywhere. If either party were to start exporting them in mass, they would simply go underground. Solution: The Democratic party should start promoting the concept of criminalizing the hiring of illegials. This will serve two missions. First the Republicans are sleeping with big business and will adamently reject this answer. This will bring hundreds of thousands if not millions of neutral voters to the Democratic side in November. Secondly, the non-tax paying illegials will be documented, given papers (ie green card or whatever) or will be unemployed. Ultimately lower paying skills will pay more and this will create more votes for the Democratic party. The Republicians will be stung and the illegials will be forced to pay their fair share of taxes or be excommunicated from America.
