"People, except for how to h andle those 12 million illegals already here, this is a rather simple problem that politicians have made to look complicated. First of all, border security should take top billing. Dispatching an already tired and stressed National Guard is NOT the answer. If Bush had kept his promise of hiring an additional 5,000 border guards each year he has been in office, we wouldn't be looking to the guard now. Secondly, a fence is NOT the answer because the border is too long and it's impossible to patrol it all.

The way to stem illegal immigration is (1) Enforce laws that place severe penalties on those crooked employers who are hiring illegals in the first place. Fine them, place them on probation, publicize their names and hold them responsible for the cost of deportation and legal fees. IF the jobs are not there, they won't continue to come in such numbers. (2) Require all immigrants to learn to speak English within a given time frame. It's awful for TV and appliance repairmen to have to enter a home where nobody speaks English or administer to a hurt individual who cannot speak our language. Besides, people in France won't speak English if we visit as well as Mexico. Why the double standard of guttlessness? (3) Establish a reasonable quota for immigrantion and enforce it."
