Dec 3 2007, 6:42 AM EST Free Border Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean Target:President George W. Bush and the United States Congress Members To: The President of the United States and United States Congress Please free Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean who were illegally charged and convicted of a crime they did not commit. Let's please get these Border Patrol Agents home for Christmas! For Petition Signees: 1. Please read the below and follow the links. 2. Sign this Petition. 3. Contact the President, your Senators, and House of Representatives Member. Give them the message that Citizens of the United States stand for individual freedoms to live without the threat of illegal imprisonment. For background see: Center for Individual Freedom (CFIF) (Non-Partisan) Free Compean and Ramos "... [Citizens] expressed bitter disappointment [Friday, November 25, 2007], that President Bush did not use the Thanksgiving holiday to pardon two U.S. border agents who have been imprisoned for a year for shooting and injuring a man now accused of drug smuggling. "'We had hoped that President Bush, who was compassionate enough to pardon two turkeys in the Rose Garden, might also have had enough compassion to pardon two law enforcement officers who spent their lives defending us at the border,' said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach)." [continued] 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Free Border Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean
Dec 3 2007, 6:42 AM EST [continued] That was according to an article in the Los Angeles Times. But there's more. That same Times article also read: "A recent development in the case could further increase pressure on the White House to intervene. The man shot by the officers in February 2005 has been indicted on charges that he brought marijuana into the United States during September and October 2005 -- the very period when he was in the country on a 'humanitarian visa' so he could testify against the agents."'The latest disclosures show that the government knew the alleged drug smuggler was a career criminal,' said T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a union representing more than 12,000 border agents. 'He was their star witness. They portrayed him as a down-on-his-luck kid looking for $1,000 to pay for his mother's medical care.'"Calling the prosecution 'disingenuous if not outright deceptive,' Bonner said the president's inaction is 'a bitter disappointment to a lot of people.'" You remember Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean -- the two unjustly convicted border patrol agents who have now spent almost a year in prison for what Congressman Tom Tancredo called "doing their job" -- securing our border against an illegal alien attempting to smuggle nearly 800 pounds of marijuana into the United States. You may also remember that immediately following their wrongful conviction, President Bush promised to review the matter. Yet despite the recent indictment of the illegal alien drug smuggler who testified against the two brave border patrol agents -- a development which will only help these brave border agents when their appeal is heard next week -- there is still no action by the White House on a matter it promised to review almost a year ago. Dec 3 2007, 6:43 AM EST [continued] The Times again: "Some critics hope the appointment of a new attorney general, Michael B. Mukasey, might prompt a fresh review by the Justice Department. Neither the department nor the White House had any comment Friday about whether a review was underway." ... No review? Now to add insult to injury -- Illegal Alien Drug Smuggler in Border Agents' Case Arrested for... Smuggling Drugs Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, the illegal alien drug smuggler whose testimony on behalf of the U.S. government led to the conviction and imprisonment of Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, has been indicted and arrested on charges of smuggling more than 750 pounds of marijuana into the United States. According to news reports, the charges against Aldrete-Davila involve a drug load consisting of 752.8 pounds of marijuana that he allegedly transported across the border on October 22, 2005, more than eight months after the highly-publicized incident involving the border agents. Cipriono Ortiz-Hernandez, the stash house owner Aldrete-Davila allegedly used to store his smuggled drug load, identified him after being arrested on related charges in early August..."
